The last year and a bit has been horrible and tonight was a much needed escape, a journey back in time to a time before COVID, before I even had to worry about money at all. Tonight we did not worry about what race we were, what class we were or even what Alliance we were (although, we all know Alliance is the best side), tonight we went back to my childhood and the dark portal opened once more.
This was quite a surprisingly strange experience for me. I do not really get emotional at games, but this took me back, as I said, to a time that was much more care free. With everything that has gone on in recent times, it was nice to see a lot of people standing at the portal, watching. It was nice to connect to those people who, most probably had done the exact same thing 14 years ago. When we have been avoiding people for so long, it was lovely to see so many people safely coming together to experience this, the medium of online games has helped us to interact with each other in this way an it has been very much needed over the past year and a bit. Some people were standing on top of the dark portal.
The scale of the amount of people waiting is hard to show in a picture, there were so many people everywhere. people were constantly flying in, there were people afk on the end of the flight path, people just everywhere, it was lovely to see so many people. People were waiting in all kinds of places for the portal to open up. They were watching everyone, taking in this unique moment. Nobody was fighting, nobody was talking much at all to each other really, they were probably all talking in guild chats, but there was no aggression, no trolling like there may have been in previous years. I remember people mounting over a major quest giver one time, that was not fun. This time, there was nothing like that, the server stayed more or less fine, for me there were no issues at all.
Then, the portal opened
After a horrible year, it was lovely to go back and to experience this event again, it was lovely to see people excited for something, as I have not been excited for the future for a long time. Thank you to Blizzard for providing this and helping people to be excited again. It was nice to see so many people there together, experiencing this together.
